They could have been flowers.

There she was. A young woman, who recently gave birth to a lovely baby girl all alone out in the cold. “You should have listened to me but you didn’t”. The voice would just not stop talking. She sat there crying saying to herself when will this ever end. The unending turmoil to and fro, the negative words, actions, thoughts. And to top it off, babygirl is laying there screaming on top of her lungs. “Just make it stop Lord” she quietly whispers. The pain from the brutal attack she just endured still fresh in the mind but she has to hold it together. “ I cannot live like this.” She takes the baby up and sings a mothers song, “Though the world is cold, just remember who you are..I pray that you’ll never have a rainy day, and no matter what the people say, it’s gonna be okay.”

A sigh of releif, baby girl is asleep.

knock knock* Is this me bring you come America for? *long silence* this is what them call battered women. Read this.

“Put it over there”

She picks up the paper she reads the poem I got flowers today. Her mind is blown away by what she see’s. Is this what’s happening to me? Is this what they see? Why didn’t he buy her a pocketbook instead? WHAT A SAD POEM! was most of all what she thought.

“I cannot go on in this, my child and I shall live.”

And off she went in all courage and bravery, out of the dark, toxic, cold, unfamiliar place to freedom, dignity, and wholeness.

That girl was me.

I rewrote that poem and rewrote the narrative of my story.

You can, if you will.

They could have been flowers

They could have been flowers but instead they were hugs and kisses,

They could have been flowers but instead joyful praise & beautiful singing,

They could have been flowers but instead songs of love, of redemption, of peace.

Why could they have been flowers you may ask,

You see, Flowers in itself are beauty to behold,

but when they could have been flowers the half has not been told.

They could have been been flowers but instead sweet mist of the morning sun

They could have been flowers but instead God chose to have fun!

They could have been flowers, but instead she got ice — cream and cupcakes, strawberries and honey,

They could have been been flowers but he gave her a beautiful unicorn

an image made in his own image, “ A God bird”,

a daughter, a soul-mate,a life partner, a friend

They could have been flowers but instead she got happiness unend!
